Brand Yourself and Sell
Eve Davidson Hernandez joined us for September to give us advice as writers and entrepreneurs. She first talked about Facebook pages. What you should have on your author page as opposed to your personal page--very different animals. Your author page should represent your brand. But your personal page is important as well--what you don't want on that page!
A few important things she covered:
Know your brand: it’s a combination of your background and what you choose to write about.
Post 2X a day and schedule your posts ahead of time to reach left coast and east coast at premier hours. (10 AM and 1 PM West Coast time.) (She recommended an editorial calendar to keep track so you can schedule well in advance.)
Advertise. Use ‘keywords’ in your description.
You’ll need an Ad sense account to use the Keyword Planner.
Talk about what you’re thinking and feeling; representing your brand. You are building a relationship, not just ‘spamming’ your book(s). Remember, this is about them, not you. Take note of what people are responding to and do more of that. Everything you do must be ‘customer centric.’
So what do you need to do to get followers (and email subscribers)? Add value to your readers. Eve recommended the book Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook: How to Tell Your Story in a Noisy Social World by Gary Vaynerchuk.
Next, she talked about your website--what it should have on it and not have on it. Important information should be ‘above the fold,’ a newspaper term that refers today to what your landing page looks like when a reader first pulls it up on their telephone—it should be ‘a long scrolling website:’ easy to scroll up with your thumb and see the important stuff without clicking on anything or waiting for things to take time to load. People don’t wait—they click away. Your newsletter sign up box should be above the fold.
There were many things Eve covered that are too numerous to share here. You can contact her to take her classes. She can be found on Linked-In as Eve Davidson: https://www.linkedin.com/in/eve-davidson-274517112/
